Summary

Spanair was founded in 1986 and quickly grew to Spain’s most powerful domestic and international carrier transporting passengers and cargos from 100 of European airports and operating up to 500 daily flights to major business centers and vacation destinations of Europe. Since foundation, Spanair has carried over 90 millions passengers providing top-quality in-flight and related services that quickly earned fame and respect of travelers and businessmen flying to Spain and back. Since 2003 Spanair is a full member of Star Alliance connecting Spanish airlines with any particular spot of the world through code-share technology. Spanair headquarters and major hub are situated in Madrid, wherefrom up to five hundred daily flights with Spain and abroad are operated.

Check-in time

Recommended check-in time for both domestic and international flights is two hours prior to scheduled departure of the flight to allow all necessary procedures. Check-in deadline for passengers traveling in business class on both domestic and international flights is 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Check-in deadline for passengers traveling in economy class is 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Boarding gate deadline is equal to 15 minutes for both domestic and international flights regardless of ticket class.

Baggage allowance

Each passenger is allowed to carry one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item regardless of ticket class and flight destination. One piece of carry-on baggage is limited to 45 linear inches (width + length + height) and 20 pounds. Carry-on baggage must fit underneath the seat or in overhead compartment. Additional personal item must be a rather light, small and handy item that can be easily managed by passenger during the flight. This can be a laptop computer, coat, wrap, newspaper or pocketbook, crutches or walking stick, umbrella, etc.
Passengers of domestic and international flights, except of flights to Canada and USA are allowed to carry a total of 66lbs (Business class), 44lbs (Economy class) and 22lbs (infants, regardless of ticket class). On flights to Canada, US and other destinations with per-item baggage allowance policy, each passenger is allowed to carry 2 pieces of checked baggage not exceeding 70lbs and 62 linear inches.
It is recommended to carry all valuable and fragile items such as keys, documents, jewelry, currencies and small electronics in carry on bag. It is also recommended to put a label containing owner’s name and detailed contact information in each piece of checked baggage in addition to airport label attached outside. Also note that many destinations have different lists of prohibited items for both checked and carry-on baggage. For instance the majority of destinations in North America will not accept any sharp objects and lighters in carry-on baggage.

Child Fares

Infants under two years old are carried for free if traveling on adult’s lap on domestic flights and are charged 10 percent of applicable adult fare on international flights. Generally there are no special child fares applicable for all Spanair flights, however special fares and discounts for children may be available on some flights depending on destination and season of the year. Contact travel agent to find out whether child fares and discounts are available on a particular flight.
Unaccompanied Minors service is obligatory for children between 5 and 11 years old traveling alone and is optional for unaccompanied minors between 12 and 17 years old. Children under 5 years old are not accepted to travel without adults of at least 18 years old. Contact travel agent at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of the flight to book unaccompanied minors service and find out what documents are necessary in terms of this service.
