Major LTU destinations are Vienna (Austria), Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart (Germany), Thessalonica (Greece), Male (Maldives), Windhoek (Namibia), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Cape Town (South Africa), Ibiza and Majorca (Spain), Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket (Thailand), Atlanta, Boston, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Fort Meyers, Miami, New York/JFK, Raleigh Durham, Rochester, Tallahassee, Tampa and Washington (USA). Today LTU annually carries over 6 million passengers and plenty of cargos to these and many other destinations worldwide. LTU has major hub and headquarters in Hamburg and secondary hubs in almost all destinations in Germany, wherefrom both domestic and international passenger and cargo flights are operated.

Check-in time

LTU has same check-in times for both domestic and international flights, regardless of destination. It is recommended to check in at least 3 hours prior to departure of the flight and check-in deadline is 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the flight. It is always better to arrive earlier to allow enough time for all necessary formalities, especially if you are traveling with baggage.

Baggage allowance

All passengers of LTU are allowed to carry two pieces of checked baggage, one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item, regardless of ticket class and destination of the flight. Each piece of checked baggage is limited to 44lbs or 66lbs if you are purchasing a roundtrip that lasts more than 29 days. Maximal allowed size of each piece of checked baggage is 62 linear inches (height + length + width). Checked baggage limits on flights to US and Canada are 62 linear inches and 70lbs per piece. Excess baggage is accepted for $90 service fee and mustn’t exceed 32lbs per piece. Note that weight limit of each item on flights to Cape Town is 44lbs.
Carry-on baggage is limited to 46 linear inches and 18lbs regardless of destination of the flight and ticket class. Carry-on baggage must fit underneath the seat or in overhead compartment. In addition to one piece of carry-on baggage, one personal item is allowed to carry in passengers’ cabin. This must be rather light and handy item that can be easily managed by passenger during the flight, for instance a laptop computer, overcoat, purse or briefcase, crutches, umbrella or a walking stick.
There are some baggage allowance extensions for holders of LTU card, LTU MasterCard or passengers traveling in business class.
