Summary

Founded in 1934, Continental Airlines was initially named Varney Speed Lines and got its present name 1937. At the same year company’s headquarters moved from El Paso to Denver. In October 1982 Company’s main hub and headquarters moved to Huston, when Continental Airlines has merged with Texas International. Nowadays, as a member of Sky Team alliance and in collaboration with Northwest Airlines, Delta Airlines and KLM, Continental Airlines deliver passengers and cargos to over 250 destination in over 120 countries of the world. Frankly speaking all major business centers, vacation, travel and leisure destinations of the world are reachable with one of direct or connecting flights of Continental Airlines. The same extensive transportation services are available for cargo delivery all over the world. Major international destinations are Western Europe, Asia, India, Australia and South America. Check-in time

Passengers of both domestic and international flights may check in starting from 48 hours prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Check-in deadline is 30 minutes for domestic flights and an hour for international flights. Boarding deadline within the US is 15 minutes. Boarding deadline on international flights depends on rules of airport of origin, but is not lesser than 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the flight.

Baggage allowance

Baggage check-in must be performed at least 30 minutes (domestic) and 60 minutes (international) prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Baggage check in is allowed not earlier than 4 hours prior to scheduled departure of the flight.
Allowed checked baggage for any domestic or international destination (except of destinations in Brazil) is equal to all passengers depending on ticket class.
Passengers of economy class are allowed to carry 2 pieces of checked baggage (bags or boxes) with maximal dimensions of 50lbs and 62 linear inches each. Note that boxes are not accepted on Express Jet destinations to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Boxes must be supplied with carrying facilities and marked with appropriate baggage labels. OnePass Elite Members traveling in economy class are allowed to carry the same quantity of checked baggage, but dimension requirements are limited to 70lbs and 62 linear inches per piece.
Passengers of First class, First Business class and International Business class are allowed to carry 3 pieces of checked baggage limited to 70lbs and 62 linear inches each piece.
Baggage allowance for passengers traveling to, or from Brazil slightly differs. Economy class passengers, as well as passengers of OnePass Elite Members Economy are limited to two pieces of checked baggage not exceeding 70lbs and 62 linear inches each and passengers of First, First Business and International Business classes are limited to three pieces of checked baggage not exceeding 70lbs and 62 linear inches each.
One piece of carry-on baggage and one additional personal item is allowed for the majority of destinations. Carry on baggage is limited to 45 linear inches and 30lbs. Carry-on baggage must fit under passengers’ seat or in overhead compartment. Passenger must be able to easily deal with carry-on baggage and additional personal item, therefore it mustn’t be to heavy or inconvenient. A personal item can be an overcoat, briefcase or purse, laptop computer, umbrella, crutches, walking stick, reading materials, etc.
It is strongly recommended to carry all fragile and valuable items in carry-on baggage. This includes fragile electronics, glasses, jewelry, currencies, etc.

Child Fares

There are no generally applicable child fares, but child discounts are available on certain flights. Contact airline representative to find out whether special child fares are available on a particular flight or destination. Infants up to two years old that will not occupy a separate seat travel for free on adult’s lap (on domestic flights). Only one lap traveling child is allowed per adult. Other lap children traveling with same adult must occupy separate seats equipped with child seats and belts and paying applicable adult or child fare (if available). Infants traveling on international flights must be ticketed with infant’s ticket.
Continental Airlines supports Unaccompanied Minors supervision program that allows minors to travel alone. Children from 5 to 14 years old are accepted in terms of this service. However, children between 15 and 17 years old can be provided with same service at parents’ request. Unaccompanied Minors service must be booked at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Children under five years old are not accepted for this service. Children between 5 and 7 years old are allowed to travel unaccompanied just on nonstop flights. Children between 8 and 14 years old are allowed to travel unaccompanied on direct, nonstop and connecting flights. Unaccompanied minors are not accepted on flights departing between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., except of unaccompanied minors traveling on international flights, flights departing from Honolulu and domestic flights shorter than two hours. Unaccompanied minors are also declined on connecting flights, where change delay is longer than four hours and flights connecting with codeshare partners.
