Air Canada recommends allowing a lot of time for check-in. This especially concerns passengers with baggage. And you must also consider security check. Check-in time differs depending on airport of departure and destination. Passengers traveling within Canada are required to check in at least 30 minutes (deadline) prior to the departure, but recommended time is an hour prior to departure. Boarding gate deadline is 20 minutes prior to departure. Passengers traveling to, or from the US must check-in at least 45 minutes (deadline) prior to scheduled departure of the flight. The recommended time is an hour and a half. Boarding gate deadline for these flights is 20 minutes also. The majority of other international destinations have same check-in times: recommended time is an hour and twenty minutes before the departure, check-in deadline is 60 minutes prior to departure and boarding gate deadline is 30 minutes. There are several exceptions including world’s largest airports. London Heathrow requires checking-in at least an hour prior to departure, but recommended time is three hours. Boarding gate deadline in Heathrow is 30 minutes. Paris, Tel Aviv, Delhi and flights departing from Beijing and Shanghai have approximately same check-in times. Passengers departing from Caracas must check-in at least two hours before the departure, but recommended time is 3 hours.Baggage allowance
Air Canada has same limits for checked baggage for all destinations, regardless of two exceptions that will be mentioned afterwards. However, baggage size, quantity of pieces and weight also depend on ticket class. Passengers of economy service are allowed to carry 2 pieces of baggage with maximal weight of 50 lbs and maximal dimensions of 62 linear inches each. Passengers of executive and executive first classes are allowed to carry 3 bags of total weight not exceeding 150 lbs and package (bag) size not exceeding 62 linear inches each. Passengers of elite and super elite classes are allowed to carry 4 pieces of checked baggage of total weight not exceeding 200 lbs and dimensions not exceeding 62 linear inches each. Star Alliance Gold passengers are allowed to carry 3 pieces of checked baggage with weight not exceeding 50 lbs each piece and dimensions not exceeding 62 linear inches each. Passengers of Premium Economy Class International may carry 2 bags not exceeding 50 lbs and 62 linear inches each. Exception destinations are Brazil, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan.
